THE
ROYAL COMMISSION OF INQUIRY INTO ANWAR’S BEATING
"It
may cause internal injuries to the bone and brain," Dr Muhammad
Borhan
"I have
been practicing as an Orthopaedic Surgeon since 1984," said
Dato Dr Muhammad Borhan Tan Bin Abdullah in his testimony during
the Royal Commission of Inquiry hearing to establish the truth behind
Anwar Ibrahim’s beating.
"On 2
October 1998, I was invited by the police to sit on a panel with
Dato Dr Kew, Professor Annuar Zaini and Associate Professor David
Choon to examine Dato Seri Anwar."
"When
we arrived at Bukit Aman (Police Headquarters) at 10.30am, we were
briefed by Dr Halim and Dr Zahari who had examined Dato Seri Anwar
some time earlier."
"We subsequently
admitted Dato Seri Anwar to the University Hospital from the 3rd
to the 4th October for further examinations and investigations,"
added Dr Muhammad.
"At the
time we saw Dato Seri Anwar some twelve days after the injury, the
two obvious injuries, which were the periorbital haematoma and the
swelling over the vertex of the head, were mild and fading."
"We could
not tell with certainty the cause or the age of the injuries but
they were consistent with the history of having been punched."
"I can
presume that the injuries were severe as the signs were still there
after twelve days. I am not sure that the injuries are lethal, but
they could be serious. It may cause internal injuries to the bone
and brain."
